MarketplaceBrazilian Drink Caipirinha What is the correct way to make the Brazilian drink Caipirinha? Many books mention mixed drinks using rum or vodka, but the actual way in Brazil does not use these liquors. I want to do what amounts to a total of a pitcher of Caipirinha. The real Brazilian Caipirinha uses "Cachaasa" also called "Pinga". This is a distillate of sugar cane. It is not so easy to find in the U.S., but it is not impossible. Here in Brazil, women prefer to change the Cachaasa by saque (distillate Japanese rice). The taste improves a lot in my opinion. Other changes we make here in Brazil is to change the fruit. Again, women have to change the lemon strawberries. It is very similar to a mojito. Posted on February 25, 2010.
