10 steps to remember when eating in a Chinese restaurant

Introduction

Chinese food appeals to many of us because it is tasty and relatively inexpensive. We are also the impression that Chinese cuisine is healthy because it includes large portions of vegetables and small amounts of fat. This is true when the dishes are traditionally prepared Chinese in China. But American-Chinese restaurants have modified their food for all tastes American, and therefore it is not as healthy as the traditional. Western restaurants offer Chinese entries, fried rice, meat rolled in butter, and sweet sauces among their "goodies". And to top it all, parties are much larger than those used in mainland China. Therefore, after all this in mind, if you want to eat healthy at a Chinese restaurant, you must choose wisely.

1. Start by choosing a good restaurant

When you're in the mood for Chinese food, avoid the typical Chinese restaurant where you can eat as much as you want for a fixed price. Chances are that you may not want to leave the restaurant until you feel you have for your money. Unfortunately, if you do, the restaurant will have your money, but you get the calories. Not a win-win situation. Instead, go to a restaurant where the server takes your order.

2. Start with a soup

A smart move by eating in a Chinese restaurant is to order the soup. Two advantages: first, less fat in your meals together and, secondly, the broth from the soup to fill you. This results in reduced power consumption when the waiter brings the main course.

Starting your meal with an appetizer, you can lose your goal of calories, carbohydrates, lipids, etc. Pork ribs, egg rolls, fried dumplings and fried foods are high in fat, sugar and calories. If the waitress brings Chinese fried noodles to keep you busy until the food is served, put them aside or ask her to withdraw from the table. Instead, you can kill time while waiting for food by drinking Chinese tea. No calories there unless you add sugar.

3. The choice of main course

When choosing the main course look for dishes that are abundant in vegetables and small portions of meat. You can reduce calories by choosing seafood or chicken instead of choosing beef, pork, lamb or duck. You can also order two dishes: one that has meat as the base and one that is mostly vegetables like green beans or spinach and mix.

4. Avoid fatty dishes

Read the menu carefully and avoid for most fat dishes. Some words give you a clue: beef rolled in butter or breadcrumbs, crispy pork, etc. whether the meat was fried before they fry it with vegetables. If this is the case, ask if they can cook meat you have chosen instead of frying.

5. Beware of hidden carbs

Sweet and sour sauces and other sauces typical of Chinese cuisine are rich in carbohydrates and if you are diabetic, it can increase your blood sugar. Sugars and starches keep adding carbohydrates to many main dishes. You will also find carbohydrates in the corn flour used to thicken sauces and ingredients used to marinate the meat.
