Cocaine use by students and celebrities Increase consumption of cocaine
An article entitled "Cocaine Epidemic fears as cocaine deaths almost double in Florida over the past five years" was featured on the "Medical News Today" website on October 21, 2006. Not surprisingly, information in this article is quite disconcerting. For example, one of the key points in the article was that cocaine use is increasing among students whose disposable income and also among the high profile celebrities. Maybe Most important, however, are two facts that are associated with the escalation of cocaine: an increase in cocaine emergency department visits and deaths related to cocaine increases. In fact, officials said drug Florida, deaths related to cocaine in Florida have nearly doubled from 2000 to 2005.
Why do people use cocaine
Why are people different from cocaine? Cocaine gives a person a feeling of euphoria, energy, and sometimes an incredible, almost superhuman sense of control and mastery. For example, some people who have taken cocaine have been known to jump from windows or roofs, thinking they could steal or they could jump dozens of feet without injury. There are, however, a physiological reason why people continue to use cocaine after their first meeting. Cocaine exhausts the "welfare neurotransmitter dopamine, causing a need for even more. In short, and from a physiological standpoint, cocaine use perpetuates more cocaine.
Fatalities and Cocaine
To better understand the ultimate danger inherent in the use of cocaine, namely death, we must focus on the time regarding its potentially fatal. To do this use of cocaine, will be compared to the abuse of prescription drugs.
The abuse of prescription drugs like OxyContin, Vicodin and Adderall can trigger abrupt cardiac or respiratory arrest at the time of the abuse. Thus, the time when critical and fatal abuse of prescription drugs is mostly "short term." Conversely, because of the snowballing effects of cocaine, particularly with regard to the damage of blood vessels increases the risk of stroke or heart attack as a person ages, users can suddenly die years after cocaine abuse began. Therefore, the critical and fatal cocaine, contrary to the same degree of Abuse of prescription drugs, is generally "long term."
Why the increase in cocaine use?
Why is cocaine use increasing? One reason is that celebrities who are addicted to cocaine have become "walking advertisements of cocaine" and, therefore, have been able to impact negatively on others, like students, who have access to relatively large amounts of disposable income.
The need for intervention and education
Florida drug experts stress that additional drug education and intervention must take place in schools, colleges and local communities nationwide to help prevent an epidemic of cocaine in its own right. I agree, but to be effective, I say that intervention and education strategy should include facts that challenge the lifestyles of cocaine using celebrities. Let me explain. Students should be aware they are watching a "snapshot" that does not reveal "the rest of history," as Paul Harvey would say. In other words, students who are impressed by cocaine using high rollers need to learn to see through the figures' facade and realize that they are "sold" by the defective products for cocaine using rich and famous.
Many celebrities are in or near middle age. Consequently, most, if not all, of the high-level chronic cocaine have learned firsthand the consequences.
