Why tea for the older generation? I need to know for school why tea is headed for the older generation, PG Tips and Tetley in particular
There are several answers.
Firstly, the older generation drink tea because it's what they grew up with. When they were young, we did not have instant coffee, you had to do much more expensive and hassle and make coffee than tea without using them instantly. Then they drank tea that is easier and cheaper to drink.
Secondly, the brands you mention - PG Tips and Tetley - the kind of tea from the older generation grew up with. Cheap, mass-market products. Business has a big market for some products and ways of mass marketing on TV
There are many brands targeting young generations. The green teas, white teas, specialty teas are targeted at young people. generations more aware of health. They tended to be what is called niche products well, many different types, but sold in smaller quantities. So they tend to use the magazine and advertising lifestyle rather than TV ads, they have advertising budgets and lower Tetley should really concentrate on advertising in places where it will be effective.
The only advertising that the young generation is Twinings, they had ads with Stephen Fry in that they were advertising their teas mass market but they have many different kinds, including the types of health but you will not see these advertised on TV.
Maybe they assume the older generation have more time to sit and drink tea while the younger generation prefer cola or alcohol. Although I know many young people drinking tea ... in fact it is the main topic of many conversations lol. They drink all the time.
I guess it has always been regarded as something of adults drink more than teenagers and children if
I like tea an IM not old!
