Glen Grant The mothers have access to more lucrative scholarships and grants Thank Obama Fellowship Program "Scholarships for Moms" is the slogan of 2009. Some of it has to do with the initiative of President Obama for all Americans to commit to at least one year of higher education, especially the mothers of the nation. His American Recovery and Reinvestment Act supports this initiative by increasing funding for grants and government loans, while opening the eligibility criteria. In the private sector, some colleges and universities offer scholarships to help mothers enter the classrooms. The University of Toledo in Ohio is no exception. UT offers three different grant providers that mothers who are students. The University Women's Club nontraditional scholarship is given to low-income women who are "non-traditional" and demonstrate academic achievement. Non-traditional usually refers to women who are older than 23 and / or are mothers at the time of registration. Women who wish to participate in this scholarship must be a sophomore at the time of application and must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Dr. Mary Louise Glen Scholarship Fund at UT is for non-traditional students in sociology are entering their second year. These women must carry a GPA of 3.2. The Management Forum of Northwest Ohio offers scholarships for students from non-traditional UT with a GPA of 2.0 or better. Why the University of Toledo focusing much on mothers? Ninety nine percent (99%) of women in America will be a paid job at some point in their lives, while 60.7% of these women are mothers with children under 3 years old when they work. Currently, women represent 46% (nearly half) of active population. Eighty percent (80%) of lone parent families are headed by women but only 22% make over $ 30K per year. Ironically, over 80% of single mothers have higher education, which lock them into the cycle of poverty. Numbers like these are too difficult to ignore. It is time to break the cycle of poverty. It is time to attend college. Posted on January 17, 2010.
