Home Beer Making Is pearl barley (the supermarket) be malted for brewing beer at home? Is pearl barley (the supermarket) be malted for brewing beer at home? I find it difficult to supply high quality ingredients and affordable for my home brew, pearl barley, however, is both cheap and readily available. Is it possible that I can use them? No. There are many resources on the Web for malting home. I do not know the top of my head that refining if any, is involved in "food quality" of barley. Two sites useful forum for all topics homebrewing is the forum www.thebrewingnetwork.com and www.morebeer.com also if you type in home brewing in any search engine you could probably get a few shots well. IDK, but I had lots of yeast which is for horses and I was wondering the same thing. Is not it ridiculous that when you try to save money by making things from scratch ingredients are much more expensive? Sorry, no. You need to live malt grains. Are there any farms near you? You may be able to get some of that way. In the meantime, the malted barley is not that expensive, especially compared to extract. Posted on April 5, 2010.
