What happened to the distillery Tequila Porfidio? When I was in Mexico for about 4.5 years, I discovered the fantastic Porfidio Anejo tequila. The guy at the shop from which I bought in Cabo San Lucas said he had only a handful of bottles left, but I do not think to ask him why he was. And I never put that together with the fact that we Tequila Tour in Puerto Vallarta a few days earlier, was expected at the plant * * Porfidio, but ended up being instead of some other local hacienda tequila .
I noticed that when I returned from vacation this Porfidio was quite difficult to find here in the States (although I know that I had seen a number of places previously). Now, it is virtually impossible to find (although I found some sites that claim to have it in stock). And I have just returned from another trip to Mexico, and it can not be found there either. Am even went to the store to SLC where I bought him before, and they told me that the distillery Porfidio closed at least three years.
So anyone knows what happened to Porfidio? Why did it close? Tequila is absolutely fantastic, and you might think about the growing popularity of premium tequila in the later years they would be expanding, not contracting (or going out of business).
As is often the most expensive tequilas are sold almost exclusively in the U.S. (or in the larger parties Mexican hot spots), just Porfidio is purchased from other tequila distilleries and packaged in a pretty bottle.
I'm struggling to find much information about it, but here is a page that explains what they do and list some of the distilleries buy from http://www.winepatrol.com/tequila/tastin ...
It looks like a bit thin prey for purchase on the Internet. Here is a store that has listed and perhaps (I'm in Los Angeles - I know this is a good store that is still active) http://www.melandrose.com/istar.asp?a = 3 & ...
It is still open and here's the address
