Somerset Parish Records1783 How can I enter in Somerset parish registers?

found ancestor born in 1783, but last census is 1841. have searched free BMD site and marriages bins. tried Somerset Council sites and sites church. I'm so sick that I'm stuck.
Any help would be very

Somerset House in Taunton has many recordings from way back. Head down Prioswood road, past the gardeners arms and take the first right, looks a bit like a library.

maybe go to the local library and we sometimes they have info on it too ... x

Oh, I know how you feel - one of my ancestors was born about 1770 in Somerset, England, and I can not find his birth certificate either!

The LDS (aka Mormon) Chuch has parish registers on film that you can rent and watch. You can also try a search on <> http://www.familysearch.org> to see if someone else has already found your ancestors.

Eventually I realized that my ancestor was a maverick - which means it does not go to the Church of England - so now I have to find the records of other churches to see if it was baptized in one of them instead. I also want to see the sites "rustskipp ..." mentioned.

Good luck and good hunting!

From my research, it appears generally records are kept from 1850 ... older than the one they have already been held in churches or county and were either in fires or floods. Even tombstones have been made from wood that has deteriorated, or graves have been dug and centers under there, or are grown more you never know they were there. In those days there were no obituaries in the newspapers, and any hospital, they can be completed in the past would now. What information do you find in the census in 1841 wave? Unless you can follow them abroad to another country, probably all the info you get on them unless you had a family member who put detailed notes in an old Bible or any thing.

You need to be more specific about the location. Somerset MA, WI, IA What?

Hey SheDevil,

Wish I was more enlightened, but here are some sites Somerset. I assume you mean England - but not sure.

back in time!

Parish registers will be in the Somerset County Record Office. would be in Taunton. If you know the Parish of birth of your ancestor, then go along the Taunton and verify the records that are probably on microfilm or microfiche, control all instances of your name in a good five years or so of 1783, ages in censuses, particularly 1841, are not accurate - they were rounded up or down (I remember) the nearest five years.

The Registration Office or the nearest large library (which sometimes hold local copies of their region) does not look random to you because of staff shortages, but in general to find and copy and entry for you if you provide a place and date. It is usually about 50p a copy.

If you are unsure of the parish and have a very common name like Smith or Jones then you're probably screwed that you have no way of knowing whether the Smith or Jones you are the right and found Smith Jones. In this case, it is probably better to give up now.

In short, the next family vacation you take, go to Somerset, and farm women and children to Stonehenge or somewhere that you visit the Record Office. Either that or pay a researcher to go to Somerset for you. Or see if your local Mormon Family History Center may obtain copies of records Somerset for you.
