Wine tasting in South Africa during the World Cup The World Cup is only a year before the scheduled start date set in June 2010. The World Cup is similar to the Olympics in that it brings together people from around the world for a merry good time. This World Cup is also an opportunity to discover the wines of South Africa.
Nobody welcomes the World Cup more than the vineyards of South Africa. The wine has been produced for hundreds of years in South Africa, but it was only a local company during the apartheid years when international embargoes are in place. Embargoes end to apartheid, but South African wine has never really seemed to make headway. It is a mistake because there are many excellent vineyards in the country.
South African wine is unique because most of the grapes produced are based on the cross-breading of different vineyards. This makes claims varietal vineyards pretty funny because it seems that all the grapes is a mixture of two or more competitors vines. Regardless, the result is a band of unique wines that are often unlike anything you've tasted before.
The best wines in South Africa Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinotage. Despite the name, each is the result of a program-cons crumbs. Chenin Blanc can be difficult to find because the name is not used in the country. Instead, ask "Steen". The Pinotage is unique in South Africa and excellent. It is a cross of Pinot Black breading and Cinsault grapes of France. All and all, these are wines that you do not want to miss.
If you go to South Africa just to taste the various offerings of wine? Probably not. It's a long expensive trip for most people in the world. Goal for the World Cup, however, has meaning. When your team is inevitable bounced off, you'll take a quick detour to the promise that you will discover a new vintage that you will take notes in your journal and wine bottle labels to stick!
